Double-Edged Gilder’s Knife

Description

The double-edged gilder’s knife is an essential gilding tool for professionals. Made by Kölner Gilding Products in Germany, this gilder’s knife allows its user to slice loose gold leaf to a desired size (when used with a gilding pad), which is possible due to the smooth yet sharp edge of the blade. The blade length is 5 1/2 inches with an overall length of 9 3/4 inches, meaning it can slice any standard sized gold leaf (3 1/8″x3 1/8″), including our imitation gold leaf (5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″).

Each edge has a different sharpness, with the duller edge to be used for cutting on a gilding pad.

Before using on gold leaf, make sure to degrease the blade with rubbing alcohol. Do not touch the blade before using on gold leaf, as this introduces oil onto the blade, which could prevent a clean cut.
